Минимальное число абзацев для данного задания составляет три. В первом обязательно нужно поблагодарить за письмо с отсылкой на предыдущее общение – что-то вроде «Thank you for the letter. It was great to hear from you that…» или «It was great to get a letter from you. I was really pleased to hear that…»
Перед этим нужно обратиться к другу: Dear… В правом верхнем углу нужно написать краткий адрес отправителя – например: Moscow, Russia – и под ним написать дату: 10/06/2017. Эти слова также учитываются при подсчете, но если писать дату, как в указанном выше формате, она считается за одно слово. Краткие формы, числительные и сокращения также считаются за одно слово – то есть, например, такие слова, как didn’t или TV.
В следующем абзаце нужно ответить на заданные другом три вопроса. Ответы, естественно, должны быть не односложными, но и не слишком длинными, чтобы не превысить допустимый объем. Ведь если написано, допустим, не 140 а 170 слов, проверяющий работу эксперт просто отсчитает 140 слов и будет проверять лишь эту часть письма – соответственно, снижая баллы за нераскрытые аспекты, не вошедшие в это число. Можно применять «неформальные» слова-связки вроде so, well, anyway – это недопустимо в сочинении, а в письме только приветствуется.
В третьем абзаце нужно задать свои три вопроса другу, ссылаясь на написанное им. Начать этот абзац нужно конструкцией вроде «By the way, you’ve mentioned that…» или «Anyway, you’ve said that…».
В конце нужно в отдельном абзаце написать некое заключение – например, почему вы заканчиваете письмо, что будете делать сейчас. Например, «Well, I need to go now. My brother asked me to help him with homework». После этого надо выразить надежду на скорое получение ответа («Write back soon! Hope to hear from you soon! Can’t wait to hear from you again!»), а также – уже на другой строке – попрощаться, как это принято: «Lots of love, All the best, Best wishes, Yours», а на следующей строке написать свое имя.
